Stew Blake - Walk it Off RecoveryStew Blake – C-3 ASIA A Complete (original diagnosis)

I am father of two and I have worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources in Sault Ste. Marie for over 21 years. Prior to my injury, I was a competitive Triathlete and had recently returned from a cycling trip to Italy. I was injured while on a bike ride with my son in September 2011. I fell off my bike and landed on my head, injuring C 3/4 and C 6/7. I was given an original diagnosis of C-3 ASIA A complete tetraplegia, and now I am defying the odds and learning how to walk again. What started with a toe twitch has transformed into being able to walk with a walker over short distances.

Much of this progress can be attributed to the support of my family, friends and therapists. I currently living in Hamilton attending the out patient Physiotherapy program at the Hamilton Regional Rehabilitation clinic 5 days a week. Also, I go to MacWheelers 2 evenings a week and works out with Julia at Walk It Off every Saturday. Having to live away from my family and friends is difficult but necessary as there are no spinal cord rehab facilities in northern Ontario.

Having access to Walk It Off with its exercise-based program has rejuvenated me in this rehab journey and appeals to my athletic nature. If you would like to follow my progress, visit my Facebook page.
