Anita Kaiser – C6/7 ASIA A Complete
Hi, my name is Anita. I was injured in 1996 when the front tire blew on the car I was riding in with my identical twin sister. My sister lost control and we skidded off the highway where we rolled 5 times down the hill into the ditch. I spent 1 year in rehab relearning all the basics from how to get dressed, eat, bathe and move around in a wheelchair.
After rehab I became actively involved in several organizations that were geared towards finding a cure for paralysis, improving the quality of life for people living with a spinal cord injury, and injury prevention. I also went back to school to get a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Science at the University of Toronto.
I was very active before my injury so getting back into sports was very important to me. I swam competitively at the provincial level for 3 years, but enjoy rowing and horseback riding.
I was fortunate enough to marry my high school boyfriend in 1999 and we have a beautiful 5 year old daughter who is the joy of our life. My hope is to one day jump through a pile of leaves in the fall, make snow angels in the snow in winter, and jump through waves and build sand castles in the sand with my daughter in summer. Any donation to my recovery and wellness program here at Walk It Off would be greatly appreciated.
